ABOUT JOHN KIDD
"But the real idea was to take a tree and turn it into a beautiful table; a work of art."
So, a few years ago I bought a hobbyist sawmill. I was totally intrigued with sawmilling and after watching a million YouTube videos I decided to jump right in with both feet. Since we live on a farm, I knew it would at least pay for itself. We go through a ton of fence boards and we can always use some poplar siding! But the real idea was to take a tree and turn it into a beautiful table; a work of art. I mean, how cool is that? I love woodworking and carpentry and honestly, I needed a hobby that wasn’t as dangerous as motocross.
After milling up my first couple of trees I was hooked. Flipping that slab over and seeing the natural beauty in every piece of wood rekindled my artistic drive and renewed my desire for woodworking. I built a covered shed for the mill and a kiln to dry my slabs. Suddenly, I was making my own lumber! When the pandemic hit, other artists and hobbyist woodworkers like me seemed to spawn from out of nowhere and soon I had people looking to me for live edge slabs.
Finally, thirty years of experience as a contractor and carpenter have brought me to a place where my hobby is my work and my work is my hobby. Here I can bring my love of wood to other creators and offer a product that is hard/impossible to find at your local big-box lumber supply warehouse.
